Custom  Mechanical Keyboards

What are they, and how do they differ from your regular keyboards? Let's get into a hobby that can never die but will unfortunately kill your wallet.

My Boards

Above you can see all the boards I have made (so far) in order they are Purple Lily, Red Samurai, White Serenity, and Blue Demon. They aren't in the order I built them in, more like the order I'm most proud of. Purple Lily was the first board I ever made, and it was a gift to a friend who was moving. Even though it was my first time, the board turned out amazing, and they loved it. Red samurai was the board that I spent the most time on, it was also my most expensive board coming in at around 250$, but now its my daily driver and I couldn't be happier, third is white serinity, this one took a little bit of trouble shooting because of the stabilizers but we got there in the end, and lastly Blue Demon is the newest and the most annoying simply because building the case sucked. I also try to theme my boards based on my posters, which is why you see them with the poster I got inspiration from

  • The Legend Himself

When it comes to building a custom mechanical keyboard, there are layers you have to keep in mind, it's kind of like an onion (not its not) there are many different variations of layouts but the main 7 are: the Case, the PCB, the Plate, the Stabilizers, the Switches, the Keycaps, and finally the Modding. Look at the video on the right, as you can see when the keyboard opens, you see the bottom (the Case), the layer above that (the PCB), the switches (aka what you click), and the Keycaps (the aesthetic of the board). Eventually, it all comes together to form a glorious Keyboard. Now here's the fun part, depending on how you change the main 7 determines how your board will look, sound, feel, and perform. Crazy right, and with all new tech ALWAYS coming out, there are literally trillions of possible board combinations, all intending to find the "endgame board" this is basically the ultimate keyboard for the builder, with everything set to their preferences, the sound, the look, the feel, and the prefomrence all come together to form something magical. I go more into depth in the main 7 in the "Lets Build" section.

If you would like to learn more, lemme know after class. I'm always down to talk anytime :)
